Karen Purvis is a freelance mouldmaker and lifecaster working in the film and television industry.
She started her career as a make up artist in the fashion & beauty industry but was drawn to the world of animatronics and special effects. She joined The Jim Henson Creature Shop, establishing herself as a mouldmaker and silicone technician.
More recently Karen has run her own workshop and now specialises in creature FX and prosthetics. She also teaches small workshops and is writing a book on careers in the FX industry.
With her film & tv career spanning 25 years she has worked on projects such as Game of Thrones, X-Men: First Class, My Week With Marilyn, Prometheus and The Counsellor for Creatures Inc. More recent work includes the Star Wars Episodes VII, VIII & IX, Rogue One, The Last Jedi, The Rise of Skywalker and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom with Neal Scanlan and Maleficent: Mistress of Evil for David White.
